Equal Opportunity Employment
20-6 Equal Opportunity Employment Policy
Applications
Applications will be required for all vacancies and all externally-advertised vacancies will be filled by the selection of qualified applicants. A resume may be submitted in conjunction with the application. However, a resume will not be accepted in lieu of the application. Individuals interested in employment should go to the City's Job Opportunities page.
All applicants for regular employment positions must successfully pass a security background review and physical examination before a final appointment to a position vacancy can be made. The City of Clarksville endorses a drug-free workplace.
Americans With Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) is a federal anti-discrimination law which prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies, and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures such as:
- Advancement
- Compensation
- Firing
- Hiring
- Job Training
- Other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment
Remove Barriers from Employment Opportunities
This law (covering employers with 15 or more employees) is designed to remove barriers which prevent qualified individuals with disabilities from enjoying the same employment opportunities that are available to persons without disabilities. When an individual's disability creates a barrier to employment opportunities, the ADAAA requires employers to consider whether a reasonable accommodation could remove the barrier.
Reasonable Accommodation
The City of Clarksville will reasonably accommodate qualified individuals with a temporary or long-term disability so that they can perform the essential functions of a position. An individual who can be reasonably accommodated for a position, without undue hardship, will be given the same consideration for that position as any other applicant.
If you are an applicant or employee who requests an accommodation due to a disability, please contact the Human Resources Department at 931-645-7451.
