Ways to Save on Your Natural Gas Usage
- Insulate - Make sure you have adequate insulation in your attic and crawl space under your home. Contact your local insulating company to come by and check to see if you have sufficient R-factor in your home.
- Repair and caulk all window and doors. Windows and doors are major contributors in energy lost. Provide weather stripping where feasible. Properly sealed doors and windows will provide you sufficient savings on your energy bills.
- Repair or replace damaged storm windows and doors. They provide a buffer of air space that helps keep cold air out and warm air in.
- Consider upgrading your windows and doors. New replacement windows and doors offer the latest technological advancements in providing energy efficiency. Since your home is your largest investment, these costs can be recuperated when you sell and will enhance the value of your home.
- Contact your local heating contractor and schedule a "fall tune up." They will perform service checks on your unit and see that it's performing at peak efficiency.
- Inspect all ductwork. Do it yourself or contact a local heating contractor to perform this check. Properly sealed, taped and insulated ductwork can help prevent heat loss.
- Set your thermostat at 68 degrees and try your best to maintain this setting. This will allow your unit to work at a constant and steady pace allowing for maximum energy performance.

- Check the thermostat setting on your natural gas water heater. Follow manufacturer's guidelines for recommended thermostat setting to ensure your appliance is operating at a maximum energy efficiency level.
