Water
The Clarksville Water System is one of the largest in Tennessee and serves approximately 160,000 people. The system consists of a water treatment plant and distribution system.
The Clarksville Water System was initially built in 1951 and has undergone a series of upgrades to date. The current water system is approved to produce 28 million gallons per day (MGD) and has the ability to peak for brief periods at 30 MGD. The water treatment process is conventional primary treatment, coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation, and state of the art membrane micro-filtration. The water system delivers an average of 17.5 MGD of safe and reliable drinking water daily to the citizens of Clarksville and Montgomery County.
The Clarksville Water System staff works diligently around the clock monitoring various water quality parameters and conducting numerous testing throughout the year to ensure safe and high-quality finished water is delivered to the customer tap.
Note: The Clarksville Water System proudly notes that 90% of their staff have achieved the State of Tennessee Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Board certificates of competency!
The operation of the water plant and distribution system is regulated by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Drinking Water Division and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
Clarksville's source of water is the Cumberland River.
